Share our Vision
A picture is worth a thousand words, while a film contains thousands of images. For over a century movies have been used to entertain, to tell stories, to educate and inform, and to energize people and mobilize action.
The vision of the British Columbia Environmental Film Festival (BCEFF) Society is to raise global awareness about the environment and promote a healthy future. Through film, we wish to spread awareness of environmental issues and stories of hope that are occurring throughout the world. We will screen documentaries from top film makers, but also full-length dramatic feature films, short films, and animations that effectively tell stories that convey an environmental message in an entertaining manner.
Our Mission & Approach
Our mission is to bridge the gap between the scientific community and the film industry. We intend to promote a culture where films can be reviewed for scientific accuracy and featured in our annual film festivals. Each year we will spotlight a different aspect of our environment, such as the health of the oceans or the effects of climate change, and will present a special award for the best film within that focus.
Who we are
The British Columbia Environmental Film Festival (BCEFF) is the joint brainchild of a filmmaker, oceanographer and an information technologist/naturopath. Pezhman Hadavi, Jennifer Jackson, and Maziyar Sharafabadi developed the idea of bridging science and film to promote environmental awareness to all communities. Through an annual festival featuring films and documentaries with an environmental focus and with the help of a diverse community of experts, BCEFF aims to bring people together in an effort to address environmental issues that affect us all.
